1. Use Clean My Mac

To start cleaning your Mac, nothing better than buying the best program on the market: Clean My Mac. This app is a broomstick of apps and documents that don't matter. With the app you will clear caches, delete unnecessary extensions that may be in your browser, completely uninstall apps, etc.

Another delightful thing about Clean My Mac is that it tells you how long your computer hasn't opened a particular document or application. In my case, I went to find files that I had not opened a year ago, and that gave me more certainty that I should delete them. If you work hard with iPhoto, Clean My Mac is also a good option, as it has an exclusive iPhoto cleaning section where it erases all files. In my case, I was able to eliminate over 7GB with Clean My Mac. Its only problem is the price, costing 40 euros if you buy for just one Mac.

2. Download Monolingual

This app was one of those that surprised me most because I had never heard of it before cleaning my Mac. On Mac, every time you install an app it will come with all the available language options. What happens is that the average user only uses two to three languages in their applications. What Monolingual does is eliminate all languages you don't use in all your apps. You just need to set the languages you'll never use and delete them from your Mac, leaving only the essentials. Believe me, you'll have a few GB of language files to delete… Click here to download it for free.

3. Go to your Activity Monitor

In Activity Monitor you will be able to understand which programs are consuming most of your memory. When I tested this on my Mac, for example, I saw that Google Chrome was one of the most memory-consuming applications on my Mac. 5. Eliminate startup applications

Unbeknownst to the user, some applications will be launched in conjunction with your Mac. To eliminate those you don't need, go to “System Preferences”, then click on “Users and Groups” and then select your profile. . At the top you will see two tabs: Password and Login. Click on the last one and check out how many apps are starting with your Mac. Delete any that aren't really essential.

6. Update your software

This tip may seem cliché, but the fact that not updating your software may be causing your system to slow down. Updating it is also one way to resolve some issues that may have come up with the version you are using.

7. Use Safari!

According to Apple itself (ok, not a very unbiased source but so there is), the fastest moving browser on the Mac is Safari. I personally always believed it to be Google Chrome, until I went through my Activity Monitor and realized that Google Chrome actually took up a large portion of memory. Because of this I switched to Safari and the difference has been overnight. Once again I tried Chrome again, but I came to the conclusion that Safari's speed on Mac is much higher (at least in my case).

As with all computers, not turning it off eventually slows it down over time. Turn it off at least at night so that it can start the day to its full capacity.

After installing new applications, some permissions on Mac change, which causes system instability. To address these issues, Apple has developed a repair tool called Disk Utility, which automatically corrects disk permissions. To repair these same permissions, you will have to go to "Disk Utility" and select your hard drive. Then go to "First Aid" and click "Check Disk Permissions." Lastly. Click "Repair Disk Permissions." If you have never done so, it is normal for your Mac to take a few minutes to complete the operation.

Even though your files are in the trash, they still consume space on your Mac. Get in the habit of deleting files from the trash every day or at least once a week. The speed of your Mac thanks.
