7 Tips for Handling a Notebook Laptop

One of the worst nightmares of using notebooks to work or study is having to deal with the heating of a notebook. This is an obvious problem for even the most expensive models, as the portable nature of these computers does not allow much room for ventilation and heat dissipation within the housing.

Still, there are a few things you can do to prevent the notebook from warming up - such as cleaning regularly - from becoming even worse and even causing irreversible damage. Don't want to suffer so much from overheating on your notebook? Just check out our tips below to learn more!

1. Avoid heavy software

This may even be more obvious advice, but it is still worth mentioning. Many people ignore the limitations of their notebooks and tend to use much heavier software and games than their PC can handle.

This causes the computer to overuse its components and warms up more than usual. So always make sure that your notebook is capable of running and don't overdo it with heavy programs.

Specifically for games that require more graphic processing, it is important to be aware. Even notebooks that have dedicated video cards can still suffer from overheating if used for extended periods or in poorly ventilated environments.

Notebooks without a dedicated card use the CPU's own graphics processor to run the same games, which can end up slowing and crashing, or even shutting down on its own to prevent overheating problems.

2. Do not place it on fabrics.

This is something every notebook user should know, regardless of the model used. Even so, there is no shortage of people who insist on using the computer on the bed or sofa, for example.

By doing so, you will be covering the entire back of the PC with a material that will not dissipate the heat that is accumulating there. Wooden tables and other materials can easily prevent this, so give them preference.

Also, if you use your notebook in a poorly ventilated environment, consider buying a cooler base for your notebook to help keep it cool, and we'll talk about that a little later.

3. Do not leave it in direct sunlight.

This tip is for any type of electronics, but especially for laptops and smartphones. Because notebooks have a clearly visible display and battery, the sun can cause serious damage to these components.

Other than that, the bright light also only tends to increase the heat accumulated in the notebook, further worsening the situation.

4. Use a stand

As mentioned, using a notebook on a desk is perfectly acceptable as long as other objects do not block the air vents, but you can improve this even further by using a suitable computer stand.

There are several models currently available with coolers that can keep the notebook cool. In addition, many may even help position the notebook more comfortably around your neck, for example.

5. Leave vent open

Another common mistake when using notebooks is not paying attention to the ventilation opening of the device. All of these laptops come with an opening for the internal fans to get rid of hot air.

So make sure you leave it completely free so that your PC can “breathe” smoothly. Otherwise, the notebook may even burn its internal components.

In addition to avoiding surfaces that may cover it, as we mentioned earlier, make sure that you are not placing other objects immediately near the ventilation opening so that heat can dissipate.

6. Use a ventilated stand

We already mentioned that you can use a cradle to improve the use of your notebook and reduce heat buildup, but it might also be an idea to buy a cradle with built-in fans.

There are several models of this type on the market today, because notebooks have become more powerful lately (which only generates more internal heat). When using one of these mounts, simply turn on the fans to make sure that the computer is cooler without much effort.

7. Take breaks

To close our list of tips, we also recommend that you take a few breaks for your notebook. As powerful as it is, continued use of heavy software can have long-term negative consequences, especially for games, as we mentioned earlier.

It is extremely important that you can recognize when your PC is too hot to take these breaks and set it aside for at least 15 minutes. In situations of higher risk for temperature, it is recommended that you turn it off for this period, completely cutting the processing and allowing a complete cooling of it.
