How to train and conquer gyms in Pokémon Go

One of the most popular things about Pokémon Go are the street gyms, which can be conquered by the three available teams and used to train their little monsters. Of course, with the recent release of the game here in Brazil, many people still have questions about how these sites work and how you can interact with them. This is exactly why we have prepared some special tips for you to learn all about the Pokémon Go gyms. Check it out below!

Recognizing the gyms

Among the many PokéStops that you can find on the streets to earn more items, you may have seen some slightly different landmarks on the Pokémon Go map.

Overall, they are much larger and have a Pokémon on top. These are the gyms, which can be earned by members of the Mystic, Valor and instinct teams.

Interacting with the gyms

If you're near a gym, you tap it to see who last conquered it and the Pokémon currently protecting it. With this, you can see the name of the trainer, his level and the CP (his combat power) of the monster that is there.

You'll recognize the coach's team by the color the gym currently has: blue for Mystic, yellow for instinct, and red for Valor. This determines how you can interact with gyms, so you can battle against rival teams and train at gyms your team has won.

Rival Gyms

In rival team gyms, you'll have to fight the little monsters the coach has left there. As gyms gain a level of prestige over time, every victory you have against them makes this level decrease.

Once you get the prestige level to zero, you can finally conquer the gym. If you do, you will need to leave one of your Pokémon in place so that it can protect the gym from other trainers who want to conquer it.

Our tip is that you make a powerful little monster, but not one of your top fighters, as they can be useful in other gym battles. The cool thing is that as long as you remain the “leader” of a gym, you can pick up a few rewards every day, such as the coins used to buy in-game items.

Friendly gyms

If you find gyms conquered by the same team as yours, the goal is to train in it by battling the Pokémon left there. With each battle won, you can increase the gym's prestige level and make it harder for other teams to win later.

These trainings also help you gain more experience, whether losing or winning battles. Of course, by winning a fight, you get a lot more experience points and your little monsters get stronger.

Battling in gyms

Gym battles are much simpler than in official Pokémon games. Here, you just have to make very simple moves to attack or defend against the rival Pokémon. To get started, you'll need to pick six little monsters to fight the Pokémon left over, so put in some of the strongest you have and diversify into the types to get some advantages.

For a simple attack, just touch the screen, but to use a special and more powerful attack, you'll have to touch and hold your finger on the screen for a few seconds. A good defense can also guarantee your victory, especially if the rival Pokémon has an advantage over yours.

Just drag your finger across the screen quickly and your Pokémon will quickly dodge the attack. Since the fights are very dynamic and without breaks, it is good to alternate between these attacks and dodges.
