iPhone X vs iPhone 8 Plus: Which Should You Buy?

Those who prefer Apple devices have plenty of options to decide this year when it comes to buying a new smartphone. In addition to the expected iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus, there is still iPhone X for those looking for a more powerful device without caring so much about the price. Of course with different models available, it is always a good idea to know what their differences are before purchasing one of them. This is especially true for iPhone X and iPhone 8 Plus, which are very similar. You can check our direct comparison of the two in the list below!

1. Display

Whether they like it or not, the displays of both devices are one of the most important aspects that most interest consumers. The iPhone X has a 5.8 inch OLED display and a resolution of 2436 x 1125 pixels. The iPhone 8 Plus has a 5.5 inch screen and has a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels.

2. Design

One of the most striking differences of the iPhone X is its design change from previous models. Its front is practically all covered by the screen, except for a part reserved for the camera. The back is pretty standard, but with a glass panel for wireless charging.

IPhone 8 Plus is exactly the same as iPhone 7 Plus and its predecessors, with just the same glass panel as iPhone X for wireless charging.

3. Operating System

As for the operating system, there are no big surprises as both devices come with iOS 11 installed. There are not so many differences between what is offered on iPhone X and iPhone 8 Plus, just some features like animojis, for example. The good news is that both devices will receive updates for many years, as often happens on Apple devices.

4. Battery

IPhone X has a 2716 mAh battery, while iPhone 8 Plus has a 2691 mAh battery. The difference is not so big and not noticeable in the overall performance of the devices. Fortunately, both can keep their load throughout the day, especially if you keep your iOS and apps up to date.

5. Camera

The iPhone X has two 12 megapixel rear cameras and a 7 megapixel front camera, exactly the same configuration found in the iPhone 8. Both handsets are also capable of recording 4K and Full HD video on the rear and front cameras, respectively.

Despite having the same settings, the extra processing power of iPhone X ensures much better photo on it and more lighting options.

6. Specifications

As expected, iPhone X and iPhone 8 Plus have very different specifications. The iPhone X is 143.6 mm high, 70.9 mm wide, 7.7 mm and weighs 174 g. Meanwhile, the iPhone 8 Plus is 158.4 mm high, 78.1 mm high, 7.5 mm thick and weighs 202 g.

7. Colors

Amazingly, iPhone X is not offered in so many different colors, just black and white. The iPhone 8 Plus can be found in gray, silver and gold. Of course, Apple may start offering different colors in the future, as was the case with the iPhone 7, for example.

8. Performance

Both iPhone X and iPhone 8 Plus feature the six-core A11 Bionic chip and 3 GB of RAM. This processor promises to be at least 25% faster than the iPhone 7, so it's a considerable improvement.

No matter which device you choose, you'll have no problem running heavier apps and games, but iPhone X offers extra features and more potential. Of course this is felt directly in the price of the two handsets.

9. Storage

There is also not much difference in the storage options offered on these two devices. Currently, iPhone X and iPhone 8 Plus can only be found in 64 GB and 256 GB versions. Other than that, it is worth mentioning that there is no micro SD card slot to expand the space.

10. Durability

Both iPhone X and iPhone 8 Plus are designed to provide good durability in everyday use. The screens feature Gorilla Glass technology and they are protected against water and dust. Also, the glass on the back and front can withstand slight drops, but of course we suggest that you be very careful and use accessories that can protect your device.

11. Security

Both devices also offer interesting security options, such as passwords, defaults, and some unique methods. While iPhone 8 Plus still has a fingerprint sensor, iPhone X has Face ID for face recognition.

Since such a Face ID has been fooled by many people without difficulty, our recommendation is that you use other ways to unlock your iPhone X in the future.

12. Availability

Currently, both devices are available in Brazil, although the iPhone X took a little longer to reach our country compared to its original release. You can find the gadgets at online stores or at Apple's own store without any problem.

13. Price

As expected, both handsets are quite expensive, but there is a considerable price difference. IPhone X can be found from $ 6, 999, while iPhone 8 Plus sells for $ 4, 599. These prices are for 64 GB versions, ie the minimum storage for both devices.
