iPhone 7 vs Galaxy S7: Which one is better?

Apple and Samsung have been rivals in the mobile market for years, always trying to bring out the best experience on each of their operating systems, iOS and Android, respectively. Of course this makes it very difficult to choose one of them, especially since they are similar in many ways. Still, it is possible to make a very clear comparison between the two to define which one is really best for the different types of existing consumers. To find out which one is best between iPhone 7 and Galaxy S7, just check out our list below!

1. Design

Of course, the design issue will always depend largely on the personal taste of the person buying the device, and to tell the truth, there are no major differences in the look of today's smartphones. For both the iPhone 7 and the Galaxy S7, there were no drastic changes compared to previous models.

Both are very discreet and functional, and should please those who already liked the design of smartphones from Apple and Samsung. In terms of color, you can find both handsets in black, silver, pink and gold.

2. Display

Like it or not, the screen has become one of the most important aspects of a smartphone, as we see and do everything through it. In the case of the Galaxy S7, we have a 5.1 inch Super Amoled display with 1440 x 2560 resolution, which results in a density of 577 pixels per inch.

The new iPhone features a 4.7-inch Retina IPS LCD screen with 1334 x 750 resolution, giving it a density of 326 pixels per inch. This makes it easy to see the best picture quality you can get on a Samsung smartphone, but iPhone is not as far behind as it may seem.

The handset brings a good balance of brightness and color in this version, and Retina display technology always delivers satisfactory results. Still, it is high time for Apple to slightly improve the standard of its displays.

3. Camera

The camera is one of the most important factors when buying a new smartphone. In the case of the new iPhone and Galaxy S7, the dispute is very fierce and largely depends on how the user will use the camera on a daily basis to determine which one is best.

The iPhone 7 has a 12 megapixel camera at the rear, which has f / 1.8 aperture, quad LED flash, image stabilization (for photos and videos) and 4K video recording. On the front we have a 7 megapixel camera, f / 2.2 aperture and flash.

With the Galaxy S7, we also have a 12 megapixel camera at the rear with normal flash, image stabilization (for photos and videos) and 4K recording. The advantage here lies in the camera aperture, which is f / 1.7 (in these cases, the smaller the number, the better), which allows for greater light input and, consequently, better photos in dark environments.

The front camera has only 5 megapixels, but its aperture is f / 1.7, so it will fare better in dark environments as well. In this case, if you want photos without that grainy effect in dark environments, choose the Galaxy S7, but if you don't mind it and want higher resolution selfies, choose iPhone.

4. Performance

First of all, it is important to remember that the Galaxy S7 and iPhone 7 work with totally different operating systems. This means you can't have a perfect comparison of your specifications, as they can deliver the same speed with extremely different configurations.

The iPhone 7, for example, features an Apple-made A10 Fusion quad-core processor, plus 2 GB of RAM to help. Already the Galaxy S7 has an Exynos 8890 processor with four cores of 2.3 GHz and four other 1.6 GHz cores, plus 4 GB of RAM to accompany.

If we just think about the numbers, the Galaxy S7 looks a lot better, but as we mentioned, they run on different systems. Practically, we can say that both are extremely fast in their own ecosystems and will have no problem performing any tasks. In fact, iPhone can often end up doing better in some ways, and the only thing that could improve is the amount of available RAM.

5. Storage

Storage space is always a problem on smartphones, so it's not something to ignore. On the Galaxy S7, there is only a 32 GB internal space model available, but you can simply add up to 256 GB extra space with a micro SD card.

For iPhone 7, you can choose from models with 32 GB, 128 GB and 256 GB of internal storage. Unfortunately, Apple has not yet offered the option to expand memory with micro SD cards and models with more space are much more expensive.

What's worse is that in these cases, you can't even recommend a 32GB iPhone to those who take a lot of photos, record a lot of videos, or install a variety of apps, as it takes up a lot of space without your noticing. If money is not a problem and you really want an iPhone, the 128 GB version is recommended so you don't have to keep track of how you later use your smartphone. If you want to save your money and still have more space than iPhone gives in total, Galaxy seems to be the best option.

6. Battery

Apple has not yet provided specific information about the iPhone 7 battery, but has stated that it should last around 12 and 13 hours of regular use. Unfortunately, this was not the time when fast or wireless charging was included in the device.

The Galaxy S7 has a 3, 000 mAh battery, which supports fast and wireless charging. In this case, both Android and iOS have battery saving systems, which ends up helping both devices last a full day of use without so much trouble.

7. Price

The starting price in the United States is the same for both smartphones: $ 649 (but iPhone can get a little more expensive if you want more storage). The difference is that only the Galaxy S7 is officially in Brazil, while the new iPhone has no forecast to get here.

Anyway, the Galaxy can be found for just over $ 3, 000 in some stores, while the iPhone 6S came here in its cheaper version for no less than $ 4, 000. Today you can find it for just under 3, 000, but there is no doubt that the iPhone 7 will be launched at a much higher price than the Samsung smartphone.

8. Operating System

The iPhone 7 will come with iOS 10 and the Galaxy S7 will soon receive Android Nougat, as many may already know. The truth is that in this respect, there is not much new to add: those who prefer something simple and clean may like iOS more and those who like more freedom and personalization may like Android better.

In terms of features, the two are extremely similar today, especially since they are constantly “copying” each other when a new function is launched. Because Google has managed to make Android more secure with its monthly security updates and the constant cleanup of malicious apps from the Play Store, there aren't as many differences with iOS as before.

This will totally depend on what you prefer in everyday life, but a good tip is to try a little of both (either in a store or with a friend's smartphone) to really get a sense of how they work before choosing.
