Apple Watch was not the only news presented at Apple's September special event. The company also seized the moment to announce the new iPhone models. Of course, the most anticipated was the successor of the popular iPhone X, which was eventually called "iPhone Xs" by the company. 1. Two versions

Unlike what we saw last year, there are now two versions of iPhone Xs: the normal Xs and the Xs Max. The differences between the two are more in size and price, as we'll show in more detail in the next topics.

2. Screen

The normal iPhone Xs didn't have many screen changes compared to its predecessor. It also has a 5.8 inch OLED screen and a resolution of 1125 × 2436 pixels. Of course, Apple mentioned that it made several internal enhancements to ensure an even more beautiful display by calling it the “Super Retina” screen.

The iPhone Xs Max, on the other hand, has a much larger 6.5-inch OLED display and a resolution of 1242 × 2688 pixels. Since the phone follows the original iPhone X design, the screen occupies virtually the entire front of the phone, except for the notch in the top section.

Thus, even with very large screens, the device ends up having a compact size. A good comparison Apple showed was the same size iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone Xs Max, but with the Xs Max having a much larger screen.

3. Face ID

Apple continues to invest in Face ID on the new iPhone. Of course this time around the company made sure that there were improvements and that the system became the safest in the world of smartphones.

Part of this is because the company has improved its neural engine and because of the new, more powerful chip in the iPhone Xs. Of course, it is good to expect more testing with real users to define how much the feature has actually been enhanced.

4. Battery

Apple never likes to reveal the battery capacity of its smartphones, because the number is often much smaller than its competitors. Still, the optimizations of the device with the operating system make up for this lack of capacity very well.

According to the company, the iPhone Xs will have a battery life of 30 minutes longer than its predecessor. From what is currently known, the original iPhone X has a battery of 2716 mAh, so the new model should not be too different.

5. Camera

Apple has invested heavily in the camera of its iPhones in recent years, but the iPhone Xs system surpasses any expectation. It brings even more features and options to the user, even emulating the effect found only on semi-professional and professional cameras.

For starters, the rear comes with two cameras: one with a 12-megapixel wide-angle lens and maximum aperture of f / 1.8. The other is a 12 megapixel telephoto lens with a maximum aperture of f / 2.4. Both have image stabilization and the telephoto lens has the ability to optical zoom.

Interestingly, it is now possible to change the camera shutter aperture of the iPhone Xs. This aperture is what causes more or less light to pass through the lens as the picture is taken. This allows you to customize your photos much more by blurring the background or creating the bokeh effect (those little balls of light in the background), for example.

The 7 megapixel front camera is also quite decent, with a maximum f / 2.2 aperture and the ability to enhance the lighting of your selfies. All cameras are capable of recording Full HD videos, but you can also make 4K videos with the rear.

6. Storage

Like all current premium devices, iPhone Xs will come with some very high storage options. You can find the device in 64 GB, 128 GB or an impressive 512 GB of internal space. This goes for both iPhone Xs and iPhone Xs Max.

7. Operating System

As expected of a new iPhone, it will come with the latest version of Apple's operating system: iOS 12. The system doesn't have features as different as we've seen in iOS 11 and earlier, but it does bring improvements and more stable performance. . Like all Apple devices, iPhone Xs should continue to receive updates and new versions of iOS for many years to come.

8. Colors

For now, Apple has announced that the iPhone Xs may be purchased in dark gray, silver and gold. This is great for those who didn't like the limitation of the white and black colors of the previous model so much. In addition, this fact makes room for the availability of new colors for this model in the future.

9. Water and dust resistant

Apple has made a point of stressing the amount of testing it has conducted to ensure iPhone Xs' resistance to water and dust. Of course this does not mean that the device is completely waterproof.

Basically, the device can stay at a depth of up to 2 meters of water for up to 30 minutes without being damaged. Of course, this is more than enough for situations like heavy rain or if your iPhone falls directly into the water.

10. Performance

As expected, iPhone Xs has a new chip developed by Apple: the A12 Bionic. It has a 4-core GPU (50% faster than the previous one) and a 6-core CPU (15% faster than its predecessor). To make the device even faster, Apple has put 4 GB of RAM in it, the standard of today's premium smartphones.

The company also wanted to focus heavily on the new neural engine, which can perform about 5 trillion operations per second instead of “just” the 600 million operations per second that the previous chip could. It's worth mentioning that this setting is the same on iPhone Xs and iPhone Xs Max.

11. Release

Apple really doesn't want to let its consumers wait too long for the iPhone Xs. For this reason, the company will open the device pre-sale on September 14 and will officially launch it on September 21.

This goes for the United States and some selected countries. More countries will receive the handset by the end of the month, but Brazil was not among those announced. Still, Apple often brings its devices quickly to our country, and the iPhone Xs can get here by the end of 2018.

12. Price

The price of the iPhone Xs is basically the same as what we saw in last year's model: starting at $ 999. The iPhone Xs Max will start at $ 1, 099.

As there is no forecast of arrival in Brazil, it is not yet possible to know what will be the price of the device here. Last year, the original iPhone X sold for $ 7, 000, but the new device may be even more expensive because of the high dollar.
