How to find old WhatsApp audios on Android

With the amount of messages people often send and receive on WhatsApp every day, it is to be expected that a lot of things will be lost in the middle of so much conversation. In that are a lot of images, videos and the so popular audio messages, of course. Fortunately, WhatsApp's mobile app keeps a copy of these media stored on your smartphone, as they need to be downloaded anyway to be viewed or listened to.

Finding them can be a very easy and very useful task if you are looking for specific audio, for example. If you have not deleted anything, you can simply locate them with the help of a file manager, as you can see in our tips below!

Finding WhatsApp Audios

As we mentioned above, you will need the help of a file manager for Android. There are several options out there, but we recommend ES File Explorer, which we will use in the example below which you can download via this link.

To get started, open ES File Explore and drag the screen to the right. This will open a special menu with some options of your device, and you should click "Local".

Then select the "Device" option to proceed.

This will take you to a new window with several folders on your Android. You should look for and click on the “sdcard” folder (even if your device does not have an SD card, this is the correct folder).

You will now be at the root of Android, with several folders related to the apps you have installed on your smartphone. One of the last will be the “WhatsApp” folder, which is where you should click.

Then click on the "Media" folder.

In this new section you will have folders related to all types of media that have been downloaded to your WhatsApp account on Android. There will be a folder of documents only, photos only, videos only and audios only. You must click on the “WhatsApp Voice Notes” folder, which is where the received audio will be.

There you will still find several other folders. Each will have a different number of audios and will be organized by date received, so it's easier to find what you're looking for.

The files may be in a different format than we are used to, but they are all audio and can usually be listened to on your Android and PC if you want to copy them there.

It is important to remember that if you delete or cut these files from these folders, audios will no longer be available in the WhatsApp app either.
